Role of Governors

A successful school is a team where staff, governors and parents work together for the benefit of all the children.  In recent years the role of the

Governing Body has changed significantly.  Its responsibilities have been formalised and special roles have been given to different governors.

Parent Governors are elected by parents and Staff Governors are elected by staff.  Foundation Governors are appointed by Birmingham Diocese

for a four year period.  The governors may be appointed in different ways, but they have an equal status on the Governing body.

Governors are involved in:

  • The leadership and management of the school
  • Monitoring the School Improvement Plan and the curriculum
  • Setting targets for future development
  • Monitoring the school budget
  • Policy development
  • Appointing teaching staff
  • Links with curriculum co-ordinators and other responsibilities
  • Producing an annual report for parents.
  • Maintaining the Catholicity of the school.

The Governors meet at least once a term for a general meeting and attend other sub-committee meetings each term.

Minutes of the Governors meetings can be viewed by parents.
